2018 has been my year of leadership reflection.
It all started with a rage update to my LinkedIn profile. I don’t remember why I raged that day. Never did it before. Haven’t been in that state since. However, something that day sparked me to change how I wanted people to view me. A bit of honesty in an otherwise fake news world.
Before I changed the channel, I had the usual corporate speak about entrepreneur, revenue, bootstrapping, headcounts, C-level, Founder, and so on. I was just playing the LinkedIn game, keeping up with the Joneses. Never felt great about it, but competed nonetheless.
I had been thinking about what’s important to me and those metrics and status levels were not it. I probably received some feedback and thought that if people understood what really mattered to me, they might help me help them. So I changed the channel:
There it is. Baring my soul for what is important to me. Little did I know that I was outlining my values at that time. Thank you to Raman Chadha of the Junto Institute for turning up the brightness for me.
I also wanted to explain better what I am most proud of during the last 14 years at cleverbridge. Spoiler alert: it’s not miles traveled, revenue growth rates or profitability.
What is really important to you? Are you hiding it from the world? Go make the change now!
